[Persona 5 the Animation] Episode 12 everyone's impressions

Episode 12
"I found the place where I belong"

While making steady progress through Kaneshiro's Palace, Makoto manages to become closer with the rest of the team. With the route to the Treasure secured, the Phantoms confront Kaneshiro's Shadow, taking advantage of his weakness of money in order to defeat him. Before the Palace is destroyed, Kaneshiro informs the Phantoms about a man in a black mask who is able to enter Palaces.

Baton Passes into All Out Attack with Makoto's final punch was pure awesome.

I love the bonding moment between Makoto and Ann.

Ren works fast, he's already doing Makoto's confidant meaning he already had knowledge at 3.

I really hope they continue Makoto and Ren's interaction.

LOL they actually put some effort on Juunya "MC Fly" Kaneshiro's flow.

Also good to hear Blooming Villain and Life Will Change's remix from P5D

  • Yusuke's artistic sense is perfect for determining where that TV should sit, haha.
  • Makoto became fast friends with everyone, hooray! She and Ren have nice chemistry too.
  • I wonder if Morgana has anything to do with this black mask character.
  • I like the tsundere side of the guards. Cute!

shame they have any screen time... they are actualy plot relevant.

Those tag scenes were fantastic, who needs good combat animation when you have fun teamwork :p

Doesn't beat this shot though, so happy with what Makoto has brought to the team!

Yeah, while I would love some good combat animation, it's still really enjoyable.

Nice to see Ann and Makoto have this talk.I don't think they've ever talked like this in the game.

I feel like they pushing the Ren x Makoto ship a bit this episode. To compare, the only time Ren and Ann had a their moment was when they were at Big Bang Burger talking about Shion.

We finally have a KING reference. It's going to be a while before he shows up though.

They changed the trick against Kaneshiro. In the game, the trick to beating him is throwing rare items to distract him. Here they just burned his money XD

Consecutive Baton Passes for ALL MEMBERS into an All out Attack? If we can do that in game that would've been so freaking OP!

SMUG REN! <3

」≫Nice to see Ann and Makoto have this talk.I don't think they've ever talked like this in the game.

They did, but it was in the student council room.

≫I feel like they pushing the Ren x Makoto ship a bit this episode.

Don’t worry. Next time they hang out Eiko will show up and then Makoto will tell Ren that he isn’t charming enough to pass for her boyfriend.

≫SMUG REN! <3
Five minutes into rehabilitation and he gives you that look.

≫To compare, the only time Ren and Ann had a their moment was when they were at Big Bang Burger talking about Shion.

and it was a mandatory story scene too.

≫Consecutive Baton Passes for ALL MEMBERS into an All out Attack? If we can do that in game that would've been so freaking OP!

I mean, technically you can. Get 3 baton passes then do the all out attack..

≫I feel like they pushing the Ren x Makoto ship a bit this episode.

Maybe, but so far it's still all part of her normal confidant ranks, so there's still time for other best girls to step in.

≫Consecutive Baton Passes for ALL MEMBERS into an All out Attack?

Literally unwatchable! And Morgana still hasn't told Ren to go to sleep, has he? What is this adaptation!?

Edit: Also aww, Makoto punched Kaneshiro without wearing her brass knuckles :'(

≫In the game, the trick to beating him is throwing rare items to distract him.

Wait, what? Really? I've played this game three times, how have I not found this out?

Hitting most of the key stuff from the Palace, very nice to see. Also holy shit, Killer B has some competition in Kaneshiro.

Loved the Makoto bonding scenes and PIGGYTRON, interesting that they changed the approach in the battle with burning his money but hey, that's also effective lol.

Yeah, I guess this was smoother than trying to introduce items and make sure we know they're important ones, I liked this change

This was a bit of a disjointed, but fun episode. The animation was messy, but I did appreciate the clear effort put into the Kaneshiro fight even if it was a tad bit difficult keeping up with everything that was happening due to some awkward placement of shots. On top of that, the first half of the episode seemed to jump all over the place, but that’s what you get when you condense a game as long as P5 into a 24 episode anime. It’s also very clear, as many of us suspected, that Makoto is the one who receives the most ship tease with Ren but they did have some adorable moments together. Oh, and that cheeky smirk from Ren at the very end was perfect, and exactly how I felt throughout the Confidant with the twins in the game.

At this point I’m just hoping that the rest of the story is condensed enough that it can fit into 12 more episodes comfortably, but I do have my doubts. I’d say the point the anime has reached is about... 40% into the original story? So they’ll need to tighten up a lot.

There is like 5 palaces left, gotta go fast.

And the last three in particular have so much build-up behind them that I really can’t see it being done without feeling rushed. And the boss to the seventh palace is one of my favourite boss fights in all of gaming, so it’s going to be hard to do all that justice with the time left.

I hope they will not fuck up Fair and Square palace. It is my favorite.

My bae Makoto and Ren had a Arcade date. FeelsGoodMan

All I could see when I saw Makoto in this scene, the eyes + smile

Oh I see you are a man of culture as well.

Maybe I'm bias because of the Makoto screen time and paid more attention, but there was definitely more of the games ost in this episode.

Also, more Makoto x Ren ship pls.

best girl, just wished they kept her red-almost-demonic eyes when in Phantom form.

dungeon bgm is also one of my favorites, top 3 for sure

A few animation hiccups aside, I liked this episode. The way they set it up, makes me believe that Makoto is definitely going to become Ren's girlfriend.

If my theory is wrong and the anime is indeed 24 episodes long, then we get a brand new OP and ED next week.

Did Ren just float in that one frame? And what was up with his eyes at the end... Oh boy. Nevertheless a nice fast paced episode. I liked the scene with Ann and Makoto.

As an animator, I've made that mistake before, and it's REALLY a rookie mistake. I think you over-extended themselves on the cool battle scene, and everything else suffered from it.

Well that does it for Kaneshiro and the plot gets more interesting from here. We'll be closeer to seeing futaba make her appearance. Makoto is getting a lot of screen time which is good but I wonder if they are going to do the makoto route.

Really nice episode! And looks that, Ren in Makoto are going around different places together. You can look at that how you like but to me is just a confirmation of her as his official girlfriend and best girl.

Well, we finally know where all the budget and time went. The whole Kaneshiro battle was REALLY well animated and you can tell they put a lot of time into it, or got all the right people involved. It was almost as good as Day Breakers, God Dang.

This episode probably had the best and worst animation in the whole show. The best sakuga moments and battle animation, and the most obvious animation errors and awkward poses. Shout out to the shot where they fucked up the placement of Ren's animation cell and he's just fucking floating. And that other shot where the SIU's fucking hair changed color. God you can really tell they wanted to do that battle justice, but ran out of time to do anything else.

Still one of my favorite episodes, in terms of story and pacing.

Oh did anyone notice that they used a track from "Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight" in the Kaneshiro battle? Nice touch, really added to the fight.

On another note: why the fuck does everyone assume we're going to do the whole dang story in 24 episodes? Is everyone just expecting them to fast forward to the end of the game?? The pacing is obviously being done so we get another season. The pacing in this show has been all over the place, but it's not fucking brain dead!
