[Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card-hen] Episode 9 impressions

Episode 9
"Sakura's Thrilling Aquarium Visit"

This is probably one of the biggest nostalgia-invoking episodes so far! It was suuuuuper cute, Syaoran knowing English was both somewhat surprising and charming, the outfits being callbacks to the originals was great, the constant reference to the Watery capture was fun (and also somewhat mysterious?), and it just overall felt like a classic CCS episode from start to finish.
Also, with all the recent Syaoran angst, it was nice to see him happy, blushing, and having staring contests with Touya again.

Don't forget Kero making faces at the guard and then being grabbed. I'm 99% sure that happened in the original as well.

It did! I remember being 11 years old and loving that scene :-)

In terms of Syaoran knowing English, it's not surprising when you consider that he's from Hong Kong (where English is one of the two main languages of the country).
Meanwhile, after seeing that English scene, the first thing that came to mind is this weeks Pop Team Epic (and me wondering if Syaoran also knows Okinawan). :P

WAIT.. can we take a moment to appreciate how Syaoran apologized to Sakura for forgetting to turn off his phone because they were on a date???? We all know how much of a problem smartphones can be on dates/hangouts in general nowadays haha

It should be common sense, but some people are really bad at it. I used to get mad at a friend because she would hang out with other people and spend her time mostly chatting with me and not paying attention to who she was with. It really bothered me (she also did the same when I was out with her too.)

What I am enjoying the most about the new series is seeing Sakura use more than one card in her captures. It was fun to see how she used them and in rapid succession too. I hope they keep this up going forward!

This episode was filled with references and callbacks but the one i am the most excited about is in the next episode preview... more roller skates!!!

First the return of Ha-nyaan last episode, and now roller skates soon! They're drip feeding us with the nostalgia.

It's been ages since we've seen her roller-blades! I figured they'd abandoned them since the concept went out of fashion.

I feel like that was one of the best episodes so far. They spent a large chunk of the episode on the card capture. I feel like that's the way to go; it feels too filler-full otherwise.
-- I also like how Kero was actually useful for once.
-- Throwback episode. Enjoyed all the references. Wish they'd be a bit more subtle about it though.
-- I hope that aquarium manages to stay in business after two major incidents in the span of a few years.
-- Interesting that Sakura's father is reading an English language newspaper. Also, "Trial set for last Paris attacker"?! WTF is this non-daijoubu shit?

I notice that about the newspaper, I guess not everything in Sakura's world is nice and cute

I really love how accurate this season is with what it's like to date in middle school.
I've been looking forward to this date for WEEKS. I feel like I'm living in a dream watching their relationship actually unfold. The build up to this episode was excellent and it paid off. And seeing Syaoran reading Cantonese was ah-mazing! It's little touches like that that make this show.
Squeee ~~~
And dude, Meiling is great. I miss her. I can't wait to have her and Tomoyo reunited when she comes and visits during the summer.

Every previous episode so far: This is the cutest thing I've ever seen. No way the show can be cuter than this.
This episode: This is the cutest thing I've ever seen. No way the show can be cuter than this.

My god that was fantastic. My face hurt from all the grinning I was doing for the first half, seeing them all red was great and yes they are random white guy.
The nostalgia and callbacks alone were enough to get me excited but I loved how Li was finally helpful!
Great episode <3

Probably tied with the first episode as my favorite so far!
Anytime Li has the spotlight, you know it's gonna be a great episode

I'm glad that Syaoran had time with his girl, it's been too agonizing watching him feeling useless.
Big throwback with the aquarium, a lot of references, really liked this!
